Importing your rides
Strava (last 7 days), the Strava archive ZIP that keeps your history forever, GPX and FIT files, komoot and Garmin.
Gridhunt can take your rides from several sources. All of them end up as tiles, and the same ride coming from two sources is counted once.
Strava: connect and keep 7 days
In Settings → Connections press “Connect with Strava”. New rides then arrive on their own, and the history loads in the background: a few minutes for most people, longer for thousands of activities, because Strava limits how fast we may ask.
- The Strava terms allow us to keep data fetched through the Strava API for 7 days. After that those rides and their tiles are removed. You see a badge such as “Disappears in 3 days”.
- Disconnecting Strava removes those rides at once. Files, ZIP archives and rides recorded in the app stay.
- Strava data is private to you. It never reaches the leaderboard, friends, public links or the community. Details in Privacy.
Strava archive ZIP: your history forever
The archive is your own export from Strava, so it stays in Gridhunt for good and counts like any file you upload.
- On Strava open Settings → My Account → Download or Delete Account → Request your archive. Strava emails you a link, which can take a few hours.
- Download the ZIP. Do not unpack it.
- In Gridhunt open Routes, press “Import or Sync”, choose “Strava archive (ZIP)” and upload the file. You can also upload it in Settings → Connections.
- Leave the window open while it uploads (up to 5 GB, sent in parts). Processing runs on the server, and the ZIP is deleted afterwards.
Activities without GPS (indoor rides) and duplicates are skipped. If the same ride came earlier through the Strava API, the ZIP version replaces it.
GPX, FIT and TCX files
Upload single files in Settings → Connections (“Strava archive ZIP or a GPX / TCX / FIT file”). A file can be up to 50 MB. Files from Garmin Connect, Wahoo, RideWithGPS and many other apps work. To import a route (not a ride) as GPX, use Routes → Import or Sync → GPX file (up to 10 MB).
komoot
komoot is connected with your komoot email and password (an unofficial connection, because komoot does not offer API access to new apps). Connect it in Settings → Connections. Your planned routes then arrive in Routes about every 6 hours or on demand, and you can optionally import recorded tours as rides.
Garmin and other services
- Garmin Connect, Wahoo, RideWithGPS and others appear on the list of connected apps in Settings → Connections. A service marked “Soon” or “Unavailable” cannot be connected yet.
- Garmin export: the ZIP or FIT files exported from Garmin Connect can be uploaded like any file.
- Gridhunt app on a Garmin device: a ride recorded in it is sent straight to Gridhunt. See Devices.
Duplicates
The same ride from several sources counts once. A ride from a file, a ZIP or the Gridhunt app always wins over its copy from the Strava API.
