Data sources
Gridhunt collects tiles from several sources. You see all of them on your own map, but in public — on the leaderboard, for friends and in shared links — only tiles from your files, in-app recordings and devices count.
Where your rides come from
- Strava ZIP archive — the full export of your Strava account, uploaded to Gridhunt. Counts in public.
- GPX, FIT and TCX files — single rides or a full export from Garmin Connect, Wahoo, komoot or any other app. Count in public.
- Gridhunt app recordings — rides recorded on your iPhone or Apple Watch. Count in public.
- Connected devices and apps — rides synced automatically, e.g. from Wahoo or komoot. Count in public.
- Strava connection (Strava API) — rides fetched automatically once you connect your account. Only you can see them.
Strava API data is for your eyes only
The Strava API terms allow data fetched through the API to be shown only to its owner. That is why tiles we know only from the Strava API are visible to you alone — they never reach the leaderboard, your friends, shared links or any aggregate data.
Strava tiles disappear after 7 days
We keep rides obtained through the Strava API, and their tiles, for at most 7 days after they are fetched — the Strava API rules require it. If you upload the same ride in a ZIP archive or a file, or record it in the Gridhunt app, it stays for good. Deleting a ride on Strava removes only the API copy, never your uploaded file.
The Strava API has the lowest priority
When the same ride arrives from several sources, any source other than the Strava API wins. If you upload your ZIP archive, its rides replace the same rides fetched earlier through the API — and from then on their tiles count in public.
What is public
Only tiles from ZIP and file imports, in-app recordings, and devices and connected apps count here:
- the square leaderboard and “Who rules this place?”
- community aggregates: passable obstacles in the planner and hard tiles
- shared map links
- your map as your friends see it
What stays yours
Here you see all your rides, including those from the Strava API:
- your tile map
- stats
- the square planner and route planner
- ride reels
How to get and upload your Strava archive
- Sign in at strava.com in a web browser.
- Go to Settings → My Account → Download or Delete Your Account → Request Your Archive.
- Wait for Strava’s email with a link to the ZIP file (usually a few minutes, sometimes a few hours) and download it.
- Upload that ZIP in Gridhunt: Settings → Activity sources. No need to unzip it.
Garmin and other apps
We also accept the data export from Garmin Connect and single GPX, FIT and TCX files from any bike computer or app. These rides count in public just like your Strava archive.
Disconnecting Strava
When you disconnect Strava, we delete the rides fetched through the Strava API. Rides from your uploaded ZIP archive and files stay — they are your files, not API data.
