Accessibility statement

We want everyone to be able to use Gridhunt, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, zoom or other assistive technology. This statement covers the website and web app at gridhunt.app.

Conformance status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. The website is partially conformant: most pages and features meet the standard, but some parts do not fully meet it yet (listed below).

Known limitations

  • The map is visual. The tile map, the Big Square Planner and the Hunt Planner draw tiles, squares and routes that a screen reader cannot read. Next to the map there is a text description (your square, tiles in view, the nearest unclaimed tile with distance and direction, the planned route), and you can pan and zoom the map with the keyboard.
  • Drawing an area or moving route points on the map works best with a mouse or touch. With a keyboard you can use the step buttons and the list of points, but not every map gesture has a keyboard equivalent yet.
  • Animated previews on the home page (looping videos and reels) are decorative. They have a pause button and stop when your system asks for reduced motion.
  • Third-party content — the base map from OpenStreetMap contributors, the sign-in pages of Strava, Apple, Google and Facebook, Stripe payment pages and embedded services — is outside our control and may not meet the standard.
  • Generated reels (videos for Instagram) have no audio description or captions; they contain no speech.

The iPhone, Apple Watch and Android apps are assessed separately and are not covered by this statement.

How we assessed it

Self-assessment by the Gridhunt team: automated axe-core checks of the main public and signed-in pages, accessibility lint rules in the code, a contrast check of the colours in light and dark mode, and manual testing with a keyboard, 200% zoom and a 320 px wide screen.
