Apple Watch, Garmin, Hammerhead Karoo and Android: what works today, how to pair and what needs Premium.

Gridhunt shows tiles on your wrist or bike computer. Availability differs by device, and we list it honestly.

iPhone
Available to beta testers. Recording, live tiles and the Live Activity. See Live ride.
Apple Watch
Tiles around you, the distance to the nearest new tile and watch face complications. Free. Following a route on the watch needs Premium. It talks to the iPhone app.
Garmin (Connect IQ)
Two apps: Gridhunt (a device app that records rides and shows a tile map) and Gridhunt Live (a data field). Edge models with a map (530, 540, 830, 840, 1030, 1040, 1050) and fēnix 7/8 and epix 2 run the app, and the data field also runs on Forerunner 255/265/955/965 and Venu 3. In testing; the Connect IQ Store listing is coming soon. Live tiles on Garmin need Premium.
Hammerhead Karoo
A Karoo 2 or Karoo 3 extension with a tile mini-map, the new-tile counter and the “NEW TILE!” alert. In testing. Live tiles on Karoo need Premium.
Android and Wear OS
In preparation, coming soon. There is nothing to install yet.

Pair a Garmin or Karoo

  1. In Settings → Connections press “Connect device”. You get a 6-character pairing code, valid for a few minutes and usable once.
  2. Garmin: in the Garmin Connect app open Device → Connect IQ apps → Gridhunt → Settings → “Pairing code” and type it in. Each of the two Garmin apps is paired separately.
  3. Karoo: type the code on the Gridhunt extension screen.
  4. The device then appears on the list. You can disconnect it there at any time.

Rides from a Garmin

A ride recorded in the Gridhunt app on a Garmin is sent straight to Gridhunt when you finish, with every tile you passed. The same ride reaching Strava through Garmin Connect is hidden as a duplicate, so nothing counts twice.

Routes on your device

A route you saved from the planner can be downloaded as a GPX file and loaded onto any device. Route guidance on the iPhone, Apple Watch and Garmin needs Premium. Garmin Connect and Wahoo can also send your finished rides to Gridhunt: see Import.
