Hunt Planner

Plan a route that collects new tiles: Area loop or Start to Finish, detours, shallow tiles and saving. Web only.

The Hunt Planner finds the shortest way to new tiles on real roads: loops, detours and corner cutting, the way you would ride them yourself. It is a Premium feature (see Plans and payments).

Plan a hunt in four steps

  1. Open Routes → Plan a hunt and choose the mode and the profile (trekking/gravel, gravel, road or MTB).
  2. Start (and the finish or the area, depending on the mode): click the map.
  3. Budget: how much longer than the shortest route you accept, in percent, or a maximum in kilometres.
  4. Press Calculate. The planner shows its phases: loading your tiles, checking enemies, routing along roads, trimming to the budget and looking for worthwhile detours.

Modes

Area loop
Mark an area with gaps (a rectangle or a polygon) and a start. The planner builds a loop from the start that collects as many new tiles in the area as the kilometre budget allows. The area can be up to about 140 km on a side.
Start → Finish
Set a start and a finish. The planner finds a route between them with detours for new tiles, within the extra kilometres you allow. The two points can be up to 150 km apart.
Manual
Click points on the map, and the route follows roads between them. New tiles are counted live.

Detours and shallow tiles

  • A detour is a short side trip that grabs one more tile: out and back, a small loop (“lollipop”) or a corner cut. The planner adds only the ones that pay off, and you can switch detours off or remove each one. The limit per tile is one-way length, adjustable in the options.
  • A shallow tile is a new tile the route enters by only about 20 to 30 m. GPS noise could lose it, so the planner highlights it: ride a little way past the border.
  • Priority: “many tiles” or “growing the square”.

Edit, save and ride

  • Drag points to move them, click the line to add one, click a point to delete it. Undo and redo work (Ctrl or Cmd + Z).
  • Save as route puts it in My routes. From there you can download the GPX or send it to a device.
  • With Premium, the iPhone, Apple Watch and Garmin can guide you along a saved route. See Live ride.

Big Square Planner is a different tool

The Big Square Planner answers a different question: where can your biggest square grow? Click a place and it computes the largest square you could build there, lists the enemies that block it and lets you set it as your target. The Hunt Planner then builds the route that collects the missing tiles.
