Glossary
The Gridhunt words in one place: tile, square, cluster, target, enemy, shallow tile, detour and more.
- Tile (z14)
- A square of the standard map grid, about 1.4 to 2 km on a side. It is yours once you pass through it. See Map and tiles.
- z17 tile (squadratinho)
- A smaller tile, about 200 m on a side, 64 of them in one z14 tile. An extra counter, not the main game.
- Square
- The biggest solid N by N block of visited tiles. Your main score.
- Big Square
- The name of the planner (and the menu entry) that helps you grow your square. In Polish “Wielkolud”.
- Max cluster
- The largest group of touching visited tiles, in any shape.
- Selection square / total square
- The square counted for the chosen years, and the one from your whole history.
- Target
- An area you want to cover: a planned square or an outline from a GPX file. Progress shows what is done and what is missing.
- Enemy
- A tile that is hard or impossible to ride through: a lake, a military range, a zoo, a fenced area. Enemies are numbered in the Big Square Planner.
- Hard tile
- A tile reported by hunters as difficult to get, with ratings, comments and photos.
- New tile
- A tile you enter for the first time in your history. Amber on the map in the ride view.
- Shallow tile
- A new tile that a planned route enters by only about 20 to 30 m. Ride a bit further past the border so GPS noise does not lose it.
- Detour
- A short side trip added by the Hunt Planner to catch one more tile: out and back, a small loop or a corner cut.
- Area loop
- A Hunt Planner mode: a loop from your start that collects tiles in a marked area within a kilometre budget.
- Start → Finish
- A Hunt Planner mode: a route between two points with detours for new tiles.
- Budget

- Source
- Where a ride came from: Strava, a file, the Gridhunt app, komoot, a Garmin and so on. The same ride from several sources counts once.
