Getting started
Create an account, join the beta, connect your rides and see your first tiles on the map.
Gridhunt turns every ride or run into tiles: squares of the world map that become yours once you pass through them. Your goal is to grow your biggest square of tiles. This guide takes you from zero to your first tiles in a few minutes.
1. Create an account
You do not need a separate sign-up. On the login page pick Strava, Apple, Google, Microsoft or Facebook, or type your email address and we send you a login link. The account is created the first time you sign in.
- The email link is valid for 15 minutes and works once. If it does not arrive, see Troubleshooting.
- All sign-in methods lead to the same account. You can add more of them later in Settings → Profile and plan.
- You do not need Strava. You can upload files or record rides in the iPhone app.
2. The beta and Founders
Gridhunt is in a closed beta. People are invited in waves, because Strava and other partners grant API access gradually. If you have not been invited yet, join the list on the beta page: after you confirm your email you get a place in the queue, and each friend who signs up through your link moves you up.
Beta testers get the Founder badge, and during the beta all features are open, with no card. Details are in Plans and payments.
3. Bring in your rides
- Open Settings → Connections.
- Connect Strava, or upload a Strava archive (ZIP) or GPX/FIT files. The differences matter, so read Import first.
- Wait a few minutes. The map shows “Counting your tiles” until the first results are ready.
4. Look at your map
Open the Map. Tiles you have visited are coloured, and the gold outline marks your biggest square. How to read the colours and numbers is explained in Map and tiles.
5. Where to go next
- Want to find the tiles you are missing? See Hunt Planner (web, Premium).
- Want live tiles while riding? See Live ride and Devices.
- Want to understand the words? See the Glossary.
